Footnotes
Section titled “Footnotes”-
bhava(existence) is read here, in the chain of the Buddha’s awakening process, as the existence of a constructed self and a false perception of an eternal, independent self, theattaof the note at 7: 2.1. The Buddha traced the cause of suffering back to existence, “to live is to suffer”, and then understood that our existence is due to our self-awareness, and that this self-awareness is traced all the way back to ignorance: ignorance of the constructed nature of consciousness. The cessation of existence is therefore not the end of life but the end of a false perception of the self. ↩
