12S2/3.3.3 Pañcasikkhāpadasutta

768. He was dwelling in Sāvatthī.

“By nature, bhikkhave, beings associate and come together.

  • Killers of living beings associate and come together with killers of living beings;
  • those who take what is not given associate and come together with those who take what is not given;
  • those who misconduct themselves in sensual pleasures associate and come together with those who misconduct themselves in sensual pleasures;
  • liars associate and come together with liars; and
  • those who indulge in intoxicating drinks and drugs that lead to heedlessness associate and come together with those who indulge in intoxicating drinks and drugs that lead to heedlessness.

769.

  • Those abstaining from killing living beings associate and come together with those abstaining from killing living beings;
  • those abstaining from taking what is not given associate and come together with those abstaining from taking what is not given;
  • those abstaining from sexual misconduct associate and come together with those abstaining from sexual misconduct;
  • those abstaining from false speech associate and come together with those abstaining from false speech; and
  • those abstaining from intoxicating drinks and drugs that lead to heedlessness associate and come together with those abstaining from intoxicating drinks and drugs that lead to heedlessness.”
