cattāri ariyasaccāni

The Four Noble Truths.

The basic teaching of the four noble truths (dukkham samudayo nirodho magga) can be expressed as a medical diagnosis (The Dawn of Abhidharma p. 113):

  • disease: duḥkha
  • pathogen: craving
  • health: nirvāṇa
  • cure: eightfold path
